Adding a hitch to the rear of my trailer

Technically, your towing illiegal. The first trailer must be a 5th wheel trailer. I doubt you'll ever get stopped for it or have any issues.

Re: Adding a hitch to the rear of my trailer
I towed double with my 5'er. The laws in Tx says the first trailer has to have a 5th wheel hitch and have brakes. Most trailers are not built with frames that allow the weight and forces of another trailer hooked to them. It's usually bigger 5'ers where you start finding this. You can do it. I doubt that you'd get stopped. I doubt that you'd find a welding shop willing to add a hitch and extra beef for in on your frame. if you have any warranty, you'll void it by welding to the frame. If it looks unsafe it probably is and you'll probably get stopped. It would need to be done where you don't draw alot of attention to it. Length laws changed a couple of years ago. There are several that overlap and can be controversial. If you get stopped it will come down to who is stopping you and what they thing about what you have setup.
Re: Adding a hitch to the rear of my trailer
If it was me i would add one of the Idaho Tote Platforms attached to the rear frame of the 5th wheel. These used to be not considered a trailer but an extended attachment to the 5th wheel. Not sure what their status is now. I don't think they are legal in all states but alot of them...
Being attached to the frame they do not swivel like a trailer does and has swivel wheels under it to support what you might be hauling.

The owner's manual is always going to err on the side of caution. Same as any other mechanical specification. That is not to say go ahead and tow stuff, rather, you may need to do some homework, and decide for yourself if you want to take the risk, or not.
Personally, I won't tow anything heavier than a bicycle rack behind my trailer. I'm not willing to take the risk of towing a trailer behind a trailer.

Kind of the same topic. I just bought the solstice super lite 29bhs. I was actually reading the owners manual last night. It said it is not recommended to to behind the trailer because the frame can’t handle it. I’m confused, the 2018 fifth wheel came with a hitch. Can I or can’t I?

Mine will be welded on.
Talked to a tug boat mechanic today who just finished rebuilding my jeep motor. He will design and build a new hitch in part exchange for remodeling his MIL's bathroom.

Re: Adding a hitch to the rear of my trailer
I am sorry. I have been really busy at work for a few days and didn't know this question came up. I looked into this exact topic and had selected the bolt on Receiver that I was certain would work. My intention was to carry one of those cargo platforms around and we all know they will tear a bumper right off.
I considered several by several manufacturers, but, I finally decided that the curt 13703 was the correct part for the job. It is pricey, but, 6 grade 8 bolts on each side is a heck of a lot more holding power than 2 on each side like the curt 13702. I actually ended up welding up my own design that was totally different, because my needs changed.
Long story short, I would have no qualms bolting on a curt 13703 and towing with it. I would personally want it welded once it was sized/installed ... but that's just me.

Sorry about that. I didn't realize how "non-specific" the search engines on these sites are. I have read several strings on adding a trailer hitch to the back of the trailer.
