Good deal about the lag.moallen wrote:I have a factory installed backup camera in my truck that I use for the ball hitch. Works great. I'm using this camera to see what's going on behind the trailer mainly when backing up. But it's also nice to see what other drivers are doing behind me when turning or changing lanes.
As far as delay or camera speed - the router is much faster than the camera, so the speed issue becomes the camera's speed or how many frames per second it can produce. The Foscam is rated at 15fps at 640 x 480. The Furrion is rated at 25fps at 640 x 480, so it is a little faster. In any case, 15fps is plenty fast enough for this purpose.
One thing I like about this Foscam (security) camera is its focal length. It's field of vision is set farther out than a regular backup camera. In other words, things appear normal size from say 3 feet away on out several hundred feet. The trailer add-on backup camera I tried before wasn't very practical for any kind of distance. A car 200' back would be just a tiny speck.
I understand concerns about using a backup camera while driving - kind of like texting, etc. But to me it seems more dangerous to change lanes or turn with someone riding your bumper.
