Rear view camera system

I helped a friend install his rear camera. We picked the highest spot we would find on the rear of the trailer... Then the rear camera was pointed down a really good angle to prevent approaching vehicle lights from flaring out the camera...

It looked something like this photo from google search...



Worked out real good for my friend's setup

I used a regular CCTV camera (weatherproof) set to backup camera mode placed at top center on the back of my trailer.

I don’t haul a bicycle back there anymore, so I don’t have it, anymore.

Make sure you buy a backup camera or the camera you use has backup camera mode.

What camera did you use and where did you put it?

I had installed a rearview camera on mine. It was mainly to see the bicycle on the back as well as traffic behind. Using it as backup was great. I need to get it working again.

Hi,
I am towing a 26 foot aluminum enclosed trailer with a GMC crew cab pickup. I want to add a backup camera to the back of the trailer for both monitoring who is behind me when on the road and for ease of backing up.
Does anyone have one of these that is working well?

I have a factory installed backup camera in my truck that I use for the ball hitch. Works great. I'm using this camera to see what's going on behind the trailer mainly when backing up. But it's also nice to see what other drivers are doing behind me when turning or changing lanes.

As far as delay or camera speed - the router is much faster than the camera, so the speed issue becomes the camera's speed or how many frames per second it can produce. The Foscam is rated at 15fps at 640 x 480. The Furrion is rated at 25fps at 640 x 480, so it is a little faster. In any case, 15fps is plenty fast enough for this purpose.

One thing I like about this Foscam (security) camera is its focal length. It's field of vision is set farther out than a regular backup camera. In other words, things appear normal size from say 3 feet away on out several hundred feet. The trailer add-on backup camera I tried before wasn't very practical for any kind of distance. A car 200' back would be just a tiny speck.

I understand concerns about using a backup camera while driving - kind of like texting, etc. But to me it seems more dangerous to change lanes or turn with someone riding your bumper.

Good deal about the lag.

I don't really see it as a safety hazard anymore than checking a rear view mirror.
