Recall 24rls

Finally had the opportunity to check my furnace. Turns out my furnace is a little different than the pictures shown in the recall doc. My 24rls was mfg'd Feb 2015. I have an Atwood 19,000 Btu Model AFMD25121_A. I remember when I placed the order, it was supposed to have an 18,000 Btu furnace.

Anyway, the offending bracket is not in either the wrong place or the right place as described in the recall. It does have 2 screws but is mounted in front to the left of the gas pipe. I'm sure that's because there isn't enough wood showing in the so-called right place to run a screw into the wood platform the furnace sits on. My furnace appears to be a couple inches longer than the furnace shown in the recall.

If I had taken it back to the dealer, I'm sure they would have checked my unit OK and done nothing further. But I decided to error on the side of safety and fabricated a bracket to place where the recall indicates. Even though my furnace is different, there was a hole in the furnace at that corner, just no way attach the existing bracket to the wood base.

Yeah, I know a picture would've been worth a thousand words. I'll take some the next time I go out to storage.

I have the same as you 19k btu. I had just enough wood to get a screw in the platform and one in the existing sheet metal hole

When I called my dealer he said they were getting the brackets at ace hardware so I am doing it myself .

Looks like just about anyone can do this. Not sure how to get it recorded if you do it yourself - which I plan to do next time I have mine out of storage.

Did the instruction sheet come with the recall?

I found a detailed instruction sheet to the dealers. Go to nhtsa and enter the info they ask for. I will check mine myself before driving 200 miles.

Just got a safety recall something about the furnace is not secure. A bracket may have been left off. I wish I could check it myself I live in a remote area 100 miles from my dealer.
