So we ended up getting a foam topper. HUGE improvement!!
Only issue now is when I'm on the end (outside) my head and feet both rub the canvas... guess I need to shrink a little bit!

We also added a 3" memory foam topper to ours. My wife keeps saying we need the Sleep Number mattress they make for RV's. I guess we're spoiled by the one we have at home. It is great being able to adjust each side separately with a wireless remote. But I notice the ones for RV's are 11" thick. Besides needing a step stool to get in bed, I think I might hit my head on the overhead shelf.

Thanks for all the replies!! Guess I need to measure and see what will actually fit on the flip down end. May end up having to pull the mattress into the trailer, if we can't find one that folds.
We have about 2 1/2 weeks till we head to the beach, last outing for the kids before school starts back. Hope to have something done before then!

Where did you purchase the topper and what size did you get?
We picked it up from Kohl's, on sale plus a 30% off coupon. It was queen size and we trimmed it a little for a better fit. It's been very good. We tried a cheaper one first, but, you get what you pay for and the upgrade made a big difference.

I post this realizing that these futon mattresses will most likely not be a good solution for the original poster's mattress issue; as these mattresses come in standard sizes. However, for those following this thread in search of good mattress options for their particular situation.... I share:

https://www.amazon.com/DHP-Independentl ... n+mattress

I purchased one of these 8" encased coil mattresses (they are also available in 6") about 6 years ago to upgrade from a cushion bed in the camper we had at that time. We LOVED it! Unfortunately, our camper was stolen, and now some thief sleeps comfortably on our wonderful bed.... When we purchased our current travel trailer (AR-One 17RD), we found the included mattress was just awful. So I did not hesitate to purchase the exact same mattress we had before as a replacement in our Starcraft.

The link I've included is for a full size I believe, but probably comes in other sizes and colors. These mattresses ship vacuum packed and rolled up tightly. So that makes them perfect to carry into a camper or other small space, and open them. They expand in mere moments, and are so comfortable (and durable).

We happened to be vacationing at a beach resort right before they closed down for the season. Bought a regular sized, regular thickness, home style queen mattress for $300. We danced our way carrying the old mattress to the dumpster.

The plywood was a few inches short for support, so we re-framed the bed support getting rid of the lift mechanism, lengthening the plywood with a new frame to allow more totes to slide in from the sides. We added a piece of vertical plywood to cut the slide through (from the outsides) storage from the tote area storage under the bed. No more drafts, no more sagging plywood, no more feet dangling over the edge.
