I decided to open up the inside wall switch on the off chance both light wires came to the switch. I was pleasantly surprised to discover the awning LED strip and the step light both had separate wires connected to the switch. For now I simply moved the step light wire over to the inside ceiling light switch.

All of the switches in that area have pretty good access and quite a bit of room behind them. When I get around to it, I'm going to put a dimmer for the awning LED strip inside there, as well as a separate switch for the step light.

I have the same yellow light mounted under the steps that turns on with the awning lights. Since I installed the dimmer on the awning lights only, it does not affect the operation of the step light. If I don't want to have the awning lights on, but want the step light on I just turn off the awning lights with the remote control. Both lights still use the same hard wired switch.

Thanks, I've been thinking about doing something about my awning LED lights. The brightness is nice at certain times but way too bright for relaxing outside in the evening - at least without sun glasses!

The regular light under the steps on my 24rls is wired to the same switch. If anything, I would like it to be brighter. It's mounted to the frame and looks like it would be hard to rewire to a separate switch. So, I'm thinking I may leave it wired as is and run my awning lights to a new switch with a dimmer.
