Short in the running lights

Yes that's what I had to do. I thought it was easier than re-wiring.

I was overjoyed to find the short !!


Anyone in the market for 40 feet of 4 lead trailer wire?

Geez - pulling the underbelly cover to find a short doesn't sound like much fun. Did you put plastic tubing everywhere the wires went through a truss? I would almost pay to watch one of these being put together, so I would know where the weak points were.

For a while we were having fuses blow in the tow veehickle when driving at night. A short was suspected and eventually found - When the factory wired the trailer, they ran the harness above the underbelly cover, through the metal trusses that make up the frame to the floor. At one point the running lights wire had worn through to the bare wire, causing the short and blowing the fuse. The other wires, right next to it were unharmed. We have 20k+ miles on the trailer, but who would have thought this would happen?

To stop this from happening again, plastic tubing was slit and slid over the framing members where the wiring passes through.

Is this kind of thing common?
