I was just thinking about boat transport, today. I wish there was an easy way to get my 14' Alumacraft F7 up on top of the TT or truck. After seeing your Zodiac, I may have been thinking backwards about the boat transport.

It completely folds up into 2 carry bags the width of the truck bed, 1 has the hard floor parts the other has the deflated boat. I made a cradle for the motor for the bed of the truck as well. I then have 2 rubbermaid's with the life jackets and other safety gear. When the weather warms up I will take a picture of the storage bags.

Takes about 45 minutes to assemble and inflate, we usually inflate it on day one. I got 2 wheels for the back of the transom to hitch it truck and drive slowly through the campground, or just lock the boat and motor to a tree onshore.

Very cool.

So how do you transport that and the camper? It looks too big to fit in the bed?

Road train anybody?

that is a nice boat! we have 2 hard sided kayaks that we transport on a rack on the trucks canopy. we also have 2 inflatable sea eagle kayaks which are very nice and fit under the bed of our eagle or behind the front seats of the truck. we are very pleased with the inflatable kayaks and their portability. we also have a inflable sea eagle raft which also folds up fairly well. most of the places we go have either a lake or river so the boats are really nice to have. Yellowstone lake is real nice because over by grant village(west thumb) you can paddle over some vents or hot springs and is really nice to see.

What do you do for a boat when you tow your trailer

Post by mcmahonm » March 8th, 2015, 2:06 pm

So I had this dilemma when we bought the autumn ridge. We wanted to have a boat with us, but did not want to have to take 2 vehicles or rent everywhere we went. As a scuba diver we often used zodiac type boats for diver retrieval and deployment off the main large boat. So I went on the hunt for a semi rigid inflatable.

I wanted something that could fit into the bed of the truck or onto a roof rack for the truck. So after some long searching for used (the new ones were stupid expensive in Canada). In the end I found a 13 foot Saturn SD385 only 2 years old and barely used. It is rated up to a 40HP motor. I purchased a 20HP 4-stroke brand new, have a fear of being stranded on the water with a used motor. Here are some pictures:
